“PÕRGU LÄÄNEMEREL. JUMINDA 1941” BOOK

“PÕRGU LÄÄNEMEREL. JUMINDA 1941” BOOK

There are not many maritime tragedies in world history as devastating as the event known as the Juminda Mine Battle that took place on August 28-29, 1941. To date, only a handful of direct witnesses of the Red Flag Baltic Fleet evacuation operation and the Juminda mine battle have remained among us.

In this book, you can find the reminiscences of five people: some from the people who made the journey on the ships, some from the residents of the Juminda Peninsula. In addition, the book opens up more about the events of the summer of 1941 and the origin of the Juminda minefield.

The book is a supplement to the exhibition “Hell on the Baltic Sea” opened in August 2021 in the Lennusadama hangar of the Estonian Maritime Museum. Juminda Sea Tragedy 1941“.
